In order to make your castle visit as pleasant as possible, we have collected all the information that is important to make your visit even more successful. We would like to tell you how to get to our castle, buy tickets and what to expect.

When can you visit Hoensbroek Castle?

A visit to Hoensbroek Castle is fun all year round! Therefore, we are open every day, Monday through Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with a few exceptions.

Days when Hoensbroek Castle is closed:

  • Around Christmas and New Year: December 24 to 26, December 31, and January 1

  • Carnival Sunday and Monday

Where can I park?

You can park for free all day in the spacious parking lot in front of the castle. About fifty meters before the entrance, there is a disabled parking spot.

Only during events might a parking fee be charged.

How do I get to Hoensbroek Castle by car?

Hoensbroek Castle is located in the Dutch province of Limburg, in Hoensbroek (municipality of Heerlen). It is about 25 kilometers from Maastricht and Aachen, and 12 kilometers from Valkenburg aan de Geul. Enter “Juliana Bernhardlaan in Hoensbroek” into your GPS to reach the free parking lot right in front of the castle. The castle entrance is accessible via the first footbridge.

Can I already see what to expect?

Yes you can with our virtual castle! All areas of our castle are captured with 360˚ cameras. The castle guide captures you, and then you can choose your own route: from dungeon to tower room. Along the way, the guide pops up with stories about former castle residents and plenty of facts. Furthermore, castle employees share their most beautiful castle spots, paintings can be admired up close and children can go on a virtual treasure hunt in search of the castle knight’s equipment. Can I visit the castle with a disability?

We warmly welcome everyone to the castle, including visitors who need special accommodations during their visit. Hoensbroek Castle is the only castle in the Netherlands with an elevator, making a large part of the castle wheelchair accessible. There is also a disabled parking spot.

Guests with disabilities receive a discount on admission. Companions of visitors with disabilities can visit the castle free of charge.

Wheelchair route
The castle has many stairs and steps, but via the wheelchair route, it is possible to see the entire castle. You start in the film room in the 17th-century attic, which is accessible by elevator. There, you watch a film showcasing the entire castle in a spectacular way. Afterwards, you can visit the rest of the 17th-century wing.

Are dogs allowed in the castle?

Dogs are unfortunately not allowed inside Hoensbroek Castle, except for assistance dogs. Up to the first courtyard – in front of the ticket office – your dog is welcome. Hoensbroek Castle is situated in a green nature reserve, which is perfect for walking your dog. A route booklet is available at the ticket office.

I have an online ticket, can I change it free of charge?

If you are unable to visit Hoensbroek Castle after all but have already purchased tickets online, you can reschedule your ticket(s) free of charge via this link.

Does the Museum Card grant access to Hoensbroek Castle?

Yes, Hoensbroek Castle is affiliated with the Museum Association, so Museum Card holders get free access to the castle. Please still reserve your visit online via our ticket shop.

Does the Vrienden Loterij VIP CARD grant access to Hoensbroek Castle?

Yes, with a Friends Lottery VIP CARD you get free access to the castle. However, you must reserve your visit online via the ticket shop.

I have a Postcode lottery voucher

With a free card from the Postcode Lottery you do not need to make an online reservation. You can come to the castle ticket office and upon showing your card you will receive free admission.

Facility Info

Are there lockers available?

At the catering Domestique Place, in addition to the toilets, you will find a checkroom and some lockers that you can use for free to store your belongings.

Can I visit the castle with my baby, toddler, or preschooler?

Visitors of all ages are welcome! The disabled toilet on the first floor of the Castle Building is equipped with a baby changing table (accessible by elevator). Strollers can be parked at the cloakroom, and the staff at the brasserie will gladly warm a bottle for you.

Is there food and drink at Hoensbroek Castle?

All that beauty and excitement makes you hungry and thirsty. Join us under the vaulted ceilings of the atmospheric Domestique brasserie. Here you can enjoy a castle sandwich, pancakes, or a sweet treat. On sunny days, you can choose a spot on the medieval terrace.

If you have special dietary wishes, please inquire with the staff at Domestique.

Is there a museum shop where I can buy souvenirs?

At the Hoensbroek Castle ticket office, there is a shop with various fun souvenirs, such as swords, stuffed animals, cards, and magnets. You will also find interesting books about the castle and the Middle Ages.
